Salt-air corrosion off the coast.
Wollongong sits on a narrow coastal plain between the escarpment and the sea. Homes in Towradgi, North Wollongong, Bellambi, Corrimal Beach and along the cliff line at Coledale cop salt spray year round. Standard aluminium and 304 stainless mesh corrodes and stains in that environment within a few years. We default to 316 marine-grade stainless steel mesh on powder-coated frames rated to AS 3715 for any home near the water, and step the spec down only when you are well inland past Figtree or up the valley.
Genuine AS 5039 compliance, not a flyscreen in disguise.
Plenty of cheap “security” doors are really just heavy flyscreens. A true security barrier has to pass the AS 5039 knife-shear, jemmy, pull, probe and impact tests, be installed to AS 5040 with one-way screws, and carry a three-point or deadlock system. We install only tested, compliant screens and we fix them so the certification holds in your actual frame, whether that’s a 1920s Mangerton cottage or a Brooks Reach new build in West Dapto.
Fire egress and NSW rental safety rules.
A locked security door on a bedroom or main exit must open from inside without a key in a fire. We fit key-free internal releases on egress doors so the home is secure from the street yet always a clear escape route. For landlords, security and flyscreen condition feeds into the NSW residential tenancy “reasonably secure” obligation, and we can screen a whole rental in a single visit.
